April marks Alcohol Awareness Month, a nationwide initiative to increase awareness and understanding of the causes and treatment of alcohol use disease. At Dr. Sam Von Reiche & the Center for Transformation, this month offers an opportunity to not only spotlight the impacts of alcohol misuse—but also to underscore the power of healing through therapy and personal transformation.
Alcohol Use: More Common Than You Think
For some, alcohol is used to manage anxiety or numb emotional pain; for others, it becomes a way to escape unresolved trauma.
These patterns may not always look like the stereotypical image of “addiction,” yet they can deeply affect mental health, relationships, and one’s ability to live fully and authentically.
The Hidden Connection Between Trauma and Substance Use
Many people who come to us for help with anxiety, depression, or relationship struggles are also managing underlying trauma. Alcohol can become a coping tool, especially when those inner wounds haven’t been addressed in a safe, supportive environment.
This is why our work emphasizes not just treating the disease, but healing the deeper emotional pain that drives it.
