Domestic Violence awareness month

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to recognize the impact of domestic violence on families in Bergen County and across the U.S.. Domestic violence affects millions of people each year—studies show:

1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence in their lifetime.

Approximately 1 in 15 children are exposed to domestic violence annually.

Domestic abuse crosses all ages, races, religions, and socioeconomic levels

Nearly half of people who know someone experiencing domestic abuse never intervene—often due to fear, uncertainty, or the belief that it’s a private matter. But speaking up can be the most crucial step in helping someone find safety.

Even small actions can make a difference. Whether it’s checking in on a neighbor, learning the warning signs, or sharing local resources, awareness and action save lives.
